About Unwordle.online

Independent browser puzzles for word-game fans

Who we are

Unwordle.online is a small independent site that builds free word puzzles you can play in your browser — no download and no account required. Our flagship game is Unwordle, a reverse Wordle-style challenge: the green answer is revealed, and you reconstruct the earlier guesses from the color clues.

The site's own reverse-word collection includes the Daily Archive, Unlimited, the Custom maker, and an interactive Clue Pattern Lab. We also host separate fan-made versions of familiar word-game formats under More Games.

Why this site exists

Unwordle.online was built around a specific puzzle idea: reverse the usual five-letter deduction flow. Instead of hiding the answer, Unwordle reveals it and asks the player to reconstruct valid earlier guesses from green, yellow, and gray feedback. Daily Unwordle provides a shared puzzle for players on the same calendar date, Custom Unwordle makes a link for friends, and Unlimited provides repeat practice. The supporting games offer familiar comparison formats for players learning the reverse rules.

How puzzles are made and checked

The daily puzzle is selected deterministically for the current calendar date, so players on the same calendar date receive the same board. Guesses are checked in the browser against the site's five-letter word list. Duplicate letters use limited-letter accounting: exact green matches are counted first, then remaining copies can receive yellow matches, so a guess cannot use more matched copies of a letter than the answer contains.

Custom Unwordle stores the chosen answer as a share key in its URL; when the link opens, the browser combines that answer with the current five-letter word list to rebuild the clue rows. Unwordle Unlimited rejects generated boards unless every clue pattern on the board has a valid, unused reconstruction. Daily, Custom, and Unlimited game progress stays in local browser storage; the statistics recorded by Daily and Unlimited stay there too, rather than requiring an account.

Editorial and testing responsibility

Unwordle.online maintains the game code, rule explanations, examples, and supporting research published on this domain. New interactive behavior is checked with repeatable small-dictionary tests and browser play-throughs before production deployment. SEO-critical fields and the limited set of pages allowed to load advertising are also checked automatically.

The Pattern Statistics page documents a first-party calculation using the site's full dictionary, while the Clue Pattern Lab lets readers reproduce individual results. Questions, corrections, and reproducible bug reports can be sent through the Contact page; substantive corrections are reflected in the visible last-updated date.
